About the Opportunity
The Justice Education Society (JES) is seeking a qualified Consultant to support the development of a new tertiary-level course titled "Gender, Justice and Human Rights in the Eastern Caribbean", to be offered at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC). This initiative is part of the broader Judicial Strengthening for the Eastern Caribbean Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada.
The course is designed to increase legal literacy, civic awareness, and advocacy capacity among youth in the Eastern Caribbean, with a particular focus on gender equity, human rights, and access to justice. It will be delivered as a 3-credit elective through a blended learning format.
We invite professionals with experience in law, gender justice, curriculum development, or human rights education to apply.
Key Responsibilities
The Consultant will:
- Course Development

- Co-develop course modules, lesson plans, and assessment strategies.
- Contribute case studies and experiential learning components (e.g., mock trials, outreach project templates).
- Provide guidance on the integration of legal frameworks and gender-sensitive pedagogy.
- Content Quality & Alignment

- Ensure content aligns with:
- Eastern Caribbean legal systems
- International treaties (e.g., CEDAW, CRC)
- OECS Gender Policy and national justice reform goals
- Review materials for contextual and academic accuracy.
- Ensure content aligns with:
- Faculty Capacity Building

- Deliver one workshop or training session for SALCC faculty on trauma-informed, rights- based teaching approaches.
- Support the creation of a resource library (syllabus, readings, multimedia, tools).
- Pilot Support (Optional)

- Participate virtually or in person in the initial pilot phase as a guest lecturer or advisor (subject to availability).
Expected Deliverables

- Annotated and finalized syllabus
- 6–8 structured module plans
- 3–5 regionally relevant case studies or exercises
- Faculty workshop materials (slides, handouts)
- Final consultancy report with recommendations
Timeline

- Duration: Up to 90 consultancy days
- Start Date: October 25, 2025
- End Date: February 10, 2026
Consultant Profile
Required Qualifications:

- Advanced degree in Law (LL.B., LL.M., or JD), with specialization in Human Rights, Gender, or Constitutional Law.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in curriculum design, legal education, or social justice programming.

- Familiarity with legal systems and justice reform in the Caribbean (especially OECS).
- Proven experience working on gender equality, access to justice, or public legal education.
Desirable Attributes:

- Experience teaching at the tertiary level
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and participatory pedagogies
- Ability to collaborate in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams
