JES Projects
Strengthening Anti-Crime Capacity in the Northern Triangle (Phase II)
Building upon our extensive work in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, Phase II of our “Strengthening Anti-Crime Capacity in the Northern Triangle” initiative sought to further support their justice systems to combat and prevent crime through special methods of investigation (SMI).
JES teams held 60 training courses to enhance the effectiveness of the region’s prosecutors, police, judicial, and intelligence authorities in using advanced SMI techniques.
Our experts also supported the launch of specialized units in forensic video, criminal intelligence analysis, blood pattern analysis, wiretap, and surveillance technologies.
To ensure these specialized units became permanently embedded within each country’s justice systems after our departure, JES supported their systemic integration through cross-training, protocols, and evaluation.
- 60 training courses delivered
- 1064 participants trained, of which 47% were women
- 97% of survey respondents confirmed they still applied the knowledge and skills gained in JES training in their daily work
- In June 2014, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (“Ministerio Publico” or MP) in Guatemala credited JES training and equipment to have saved 1,214 lives and allowed for 1,220 detentions between 2009-2014
