JES is British Columbia’s largest non-profit publisher of legal education resources for teachers.

Over the last 30 years, with funding from the BC Ministry of Education, the BC Ministry of Attorney General and the Law Foundation of BC, JES has been developing legal education resources for BC teachers.

Our publications include:

  • New Directions in Youth Justice: A series of lesson plans for students grades 7 to 12, with specialized resources for Youth-At-Risk and English as a Second Language students.
  • Being an Active Citizen: Curriculum resources for grades 7 to 12, focused on engaging youth to be active in their communities.
  • Legal Quest / Legal Journeys: Print publications that provide teachers with subject matter information, activities, and handouts to teach law to high school / elementary school students.
  • Teachers Law Institutes: A series of professional development workshops for teachers to introduce and provide instruction on JES legal lesson plans.
  • Law Connection: JES partnered with Simon Fraser University to develop and publish this series of legal education resources for high school, college, and university students.
  • Legal Independence: Developed in partnership with the Law Society of BC, this video and lesson plan provide instruction on the rule of law and judicial independence.
