Maia Hibben

Maia Hibben is a justice and security specialist with more than 17 years of experience working across the Caribbean on criminal justice reform, citizen security, crime prevention and security sector development. As Assistant Director of the International Program at the Justice Education Society, Maia supports the strategic development and delivery of JES’ international portfolio, working with project teams, governments and partners to strengthen justice systems and ensure effective, sustainable programming. Prior to joining JES, Maia led UNDP’s regional CariSECURE 2.0 programme, working across six Caribbean countries to strengthen evidence-based approaches to youth crime and violence prevention and responses to trafficking in persons. Her previous experience also includes roles and assignments with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. A trained criminologist, Maia holds undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in criminology, with a particular focus on crime, violence and justice in the Caribbean. Outside of work, Maia enjoys yoga, the beach, spending time with her 2 kids and dog, interior design, and giving old furniture a new lease on life through restoration and creative flips.
