Rate Range: $39-42/hr

The Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) is a non-profit organization with over 36 years of experience providing public legal education and justice system capacity building in Canada and overseas. In Canada, JES helps more than 700,000 British Columbians learn about our justice system and address their legal issues.
Internationally, JES has programs in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama and Guyana which work with national institutions to strengthen justice systems, access to justice and citizen security. JES has offices in Canada, Guatemala, and Honduras and diverse sources of funding including donors and provincial, federal and overseas governments. THE ROLE
We are seeking a Legal Content Writer with expertise in Family Law in British Columbia to join our team. This role combines legal expertise, plain language communication, digital collaboration, and community impact.
The successful candidate will:

Update and maintain Family Law in BC and other JES Public Legal Education and Information (PLEI) websites.

Work closely with the digital team to ensure content is user-centered, data-driven, and aligned with best practices in design and accessibility.

Translate complex legal information into clear, accurate, trauma-informed, plain-language content.

Use data and insights from our Ask JES Legal Help Line to develop new content that responds to the real-world needs of British Columbians.

Support escalated questions on Ask JES by providing reliable, legally accurate responses.

Collaborate with community groups and PLEI organizations to ensure JES online resources reflect and support the needs of diverse clients.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Content Development

Update and expand content on the Family Law in BC website and other JES sites.

Write trauma-informed, plain-language guides, FAQs, tools, and resources based on user needs.

Ensure all materials are accurate, accessible, and timely.

Develop resources that are culturally responsive and reflect the lived realities of British Columbians.

Partner with community groups and PLEI organizations to identify content gaps.

Work with JES’s digital team to make data-driven content decisions,
provide input on designs and user experience and ensure resources are user-centered and accessible.
Ask JES Support

Respond to escalated inquiries on the Ask JES Legal Help Line.

Evaluate responses of the Ask JES service and provide feedback/recommendations

Identify trends and issues from user questions.

Translate insights into new or updated website content.
THE PERSON
Education/Knowledge, skills and experience
-
Law degree (JD/LLB)/paralegal degree and experience practicing or working in Family Law in British Columbia is required.

Strong knowledge of BC’s family justice system, legislation, and resources.

Exceptional plain language writing skills with ability to make complex concepts accessible.

Experience applying a trauma-informed approach in communication or service delivery.

Strong analytic skills with ability to identify trends and translate data into actionable solutions.

Experience working in public legal education, legal information, or community-based law services is an asset.

Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and access to justice.

Skilled writer with strong attention to detail and ability to copy edit.

Strong networking and relationship building skills.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to anticipate project needs and discern work priorities.

Proficient with Microsoft Office/365 and Google Workspace applications.
